If JMU coach Matt Brady had had his way, Burgess' shot wouldn't have happened.
During a timeout at 0:33, Brady told his players to keep VCU's star guard, Eric Maynor, from getting the ball and then foul Larry Sanders, who was 0 for 3 at the foul line.
Maynor got the ball, and two defenders followed him as he dribbled outside the 3-point line. That left Burgess open for a 3-pointer.
"I put my wing guy, Ben Louis, on Sanders, who went under the basket," Brady said. "I wanted to foul Sanders rather than let Eric make the play to win the game. That was not seen [by the officials]. I was disappointed in that."
