CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Vincent Nadeau set a blistering pace, entering the clubhouse 12 strokes under par to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a five-shot lead at the Palisades Collegiate Classic Monday at the Palisades Country Club.

Nadeau tore into the par-72 course with a first round 67. His second round was even more impressive, as Nadeau carded a 7-under 65. Nadeau and Riley Wheeldon of Louisville are tied for the individual lead (132).

VCU totaled 552 strokes in the opening two rounds to lead Louisville (557) and Marquette (567).

Despite his outstanding day, Nadeau didn’t record the lowest round of the day by a Ram. That honor went to sophomore Mark Jargren, who fired a career-low 64 in Monday’s second round. Jargren, who carded a 72 in his opening round, currently sits fourth overall.

Also for the Rams, junior Rafael Campos (-3) sits 12th, junior Lanto Griffin (-1) is 19th and freshman Even Boyer (E) ranks 22nd after two rounds.

“None of this means a thing if we don’t follow it up with a strong finish tomorrow,” Said VCU Coach Matt Ball. “We are trying to make a final charge to the NCAA Tournament. Being just outside the at-large ‘bubble’, we have to play great here or win the CAA Tournament later this week. We know what we have to do, the guys are playing better. We just have to deliver down the stretch.”

Tuesday’s final round is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Vincent Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) fired a 2-under 70 in Tuesday final round to place second overall as Virginia Commonwealth University held on for the team championship at the Palisades Collegiate Classic at the Palisades Country Club.

The Rams finished 28-under par for the three-round tournament to hold off Louisville, which was 21-under. Marquette (-6), Old Dominion (+4) and Belmont Abbey (+9), rounded out the top five.

Marquette’s Mike Van Sickle carded a three-round total of 200, 16-under par, to take individual honors. Nadeau finished two strokes back with 202.

VCU junior Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, P.R.) placed tied for fourth overall with a 7-under 209. Campos came on strong Tuesday, carding a 4-under 68.

Following Campos for the Rams were junior Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.), who finished 14th with a 2-under 214, sophomore Mark Jargren (Helsingborg, Sweden), who shot a 1-over 217 and freshman Evan Boyer (Raleigh, N.C.), who carded a 3-over 219.
