NORVELL CAPTURES CAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Sophomore posts four top-eight finishes at Lou Onesty/Abramson Invite
RICHMOND, Va. – The phrase “sophomore slump” is thrown around a lot when it comes to collegiate athletics.
That phrase is not used around second-year standout Antonio Norvell (Portsmouth, Va.) of the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track & field team.
Norvell posted four top-eight finishes at this past weekend’s Lou Onesty/Abramson Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.
The sophomore took home two individual fourth-place finishes, in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 and leaped to 22’ ½” in the long jump. He was also a member of two relay teams, collecting a first-place showing in the 4x400 meter relay (3:16.07) and eighth place in the 4x100 meter relay (43.02).
Norvell and the Rams will be back in action this weekend in an attempt to claim its first Colonial Athletic Association Championship since 2006. The championships kick off on Friday afternoon in Towson, Md.
