VINEL NAMED CAA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Nicolas Vinel was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, while four Rams picked up All-CAA First Team citations, Thursday at the league’s awards banquet.

It’s the second straight year a Ram has taken home Rookie of the Year honors. Last season Martin Schulhauser collected the award for VCU.

Vinel, appearing primarily at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, carved out an 18-9 record, including a 9-7 ledger in dual matches. In addition, Vinel is 11-5 in doubles play.

Meanwhile, Schulhauser, a senior, and junior Thibaut Charron were selected to the All-CAA First Team for singles play. It’s the first such citation for both players.

Schulhauser is 10-8 in singles action, including a 10-6 this spring, all on the No.1 and No. 2 courts. He has two wins over players ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Top 100.

Charron, who has split time with Schulhauser at the first and second positions, is 16-10 overall. He is 11-8 in dual matches.

On the doubles side, senior Emil Lindgren and freshman Benjamin Bouhana were named to the conference’s first team. The duo has served as the Rams’ No. 1 doubles team this year, forging a 14-6 record.

In addition, Vinel was named to the All-CAA Second Team for singles and combined with Schulhauser on a second team doubles nod. Lindgren earned third teams honors in singles play.

The second-seeded Rams return to the courts on Friday, April 17 when they take on seventh-seeded Georgia State in the CAA Championship quarterfinals at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
